Major Causes For Upper Back Pain

There are many potential causes of upper back pain. The upper bank consists of many different structures and conditions vary which can affect it. The upper back is the skeletal structure commonly known as the thoracic cage. This structure consists of the 12 vertebrae and their corresponding ribs that connect to the breastbone. The thoracic cage provides protection for the major organs of the body. Generally, this is a fairly stable area but certain conditions can cause discomfort.

The upper spine tends to not move very much. Is designed to be sturdy yet have a level of flexibility to support standing upright. Other areas of the spine are more flexible and tend to move more. The neck, for instance, has a much greater range of movement and the upper spine does.

The incidence of upper spine pain can vary significantly. There are a number of potential causes which can contribute to discomfort in this area. Since it does have less movement than other parts of the spine, when injuries do occur in this area they can be somewhat painful.

It is important to understand the functions of the upper spine. One function of the upper spine has to do with transmitting your weight. As you move in list objects, the upper spine must be able to transmit this weight between the upper and lower body. This requires the upper spine to be sturdy yet flexible. It also provides a protective barrier for the vital organs of the body. The heart and liver are contained in the thoracic cage.

What are causes of upper spine pain? There seem to be two main groups of discomfort coming from this region. One general group is joint dysfunction. The other is classified as soft tissue irritation.

One type of soft tissue injury involves either a string or a sprain. When this occurs, the muscles in the back are stretched excessively. Excessive stretching can cause tears that develop in the muscle tissue. In the case of a sprain, the injury occurs to you the ligaments between the bones. These are the two most common occurrences of upper spine problems.

The two most common conditions which accounts for the most common causes of back pain are strains and sprains. These are soft tissue injuries. The soft tissues must have sufficient strength yet have enough flexibility to perform their functions.

When we picture over exerting our muscles, we think that we are strenuously working them out. In the case of upper spine pain, working at the computer can cause much discomfort to this area. If the muscles are held under tension, they become fatigued and stiff.

There are a few cases which are less common problems for the upper spine. Certain conditions such as a herniated disc, or arthritis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia can be severe situations. These can involve a variety of treatments including surgery. These situations can also cause much discomfort and pain to those with it.

The treatment for upper spine pain can vary substantially. For more chronic conditions, it may involve surgery. Lesser conditions may be relieved with proper stretching, exercise and massage therapy. The key is to keep the strength of muscles and to retain their flexibility. Many people seek chiropractic treatment. Chiropractors help to adjust the spine to better align it as well as provide supplemental therapies such as massage therapy.

There are a number of treatments for upper back pain. Normally, your physician or chiropractor will perform a number of tests to determine what the situation with you is. However, the tests are not always 100% accurate in detecting the root cause. This area the body is very complex and sometimes difficult to diagnose.

It is important to use natural ways to restore the health and vitality of your upper back. The goal of any treatment is to restore the strength and flexibility of the spinal column. This ensures it long-term health and vitality.
